Change is in the Air

Good morning! How are you doing?  I just got home from a 4-day mini vacation at the ocean. I’ve had a lot of health issues, ER visits, and medical tests this Summer and I needed a time away all to myself to think, pray, journal, and rejuvenate. It still didn’t seem like I was away long enough but it was still a great getaway and I was able to resolve at least some things in my mind and heart. One thing I know for sure … change is in the air!

One big change I’d like to make is in the subjects I photograph.  I’ve had so much fun with the retro vintage images I’ve taken in the past but would really like to focus on nature photography now.  I’m starting with my Instagram photos and hopefully will move on from there.  🙂

There are other changes that I’m slowly making in my personal life, but I’ll write about those in another blog post.  Have a great new week and thanks for taking the time to stop by!

Now that’s a Sweet Ride

now thats a sweet ride final 2

Look what I spotted the other day in front of a pie shop! It’s in the perfect color, too. If this is a photo you’d like hanging on your wall, you can purchase it in my Society 6 shop RIGHT HERE.

A little background on the pie shop I just mentioned. It’s called “The Pie Goddess” and it’s located in Enumclaw, Washington. We just moved from this charming country town about a year and a half ago and it’s always so nice to visit. Here’s a short interview with Suzy Sidhu (aka “The Pie Goddess”) if you’d like to learn a little more about this charming pick-your-pie-up bakery.

Taking a New Class

vintage ibm ad

Wow, it’s been a while since I’ve posted here. Do you ever go through times where it’s just a challenge to blog? Life gets busy, you don’t have the motivation, or you can’t think of anything interesting to share? Well, this might not knock your socks off, but I thought I’d tell you about a class I’m starting on Monday that I’m really excited about! It’s called “The Ins and Outs of Illustrator“. I’ve been wanting to learn how to draw/paint digitally for some time now and I heard that this is a great beginning class.

The old IBM ad above is the ad I chose for my first project. Our instructor will be teaching us how to create our own version of the ad using Adobe Illustrator. Should be fun!

Oh, and if you’re interested, there might even be a few spots left if you want to join me. 🙂

Tuesday with Nora

life is beautiful

Today was such a great day! I’ve been feeling so much better the last month and a half and was actually doing so well that I was able to meet with my sweet 80 year old friend, Nora, for coffee and a danish at the French Bakery around the corner from us. Now I call Nora “sweet” (and she is) but she’s actually one of the most down-to-earth say-it-like-it-is people you’ll meet. I think that’s one of the things I like the most about her. She’s genuine and honest and fun … oh, and sweet … very sweet. 🙂

Hope you’re having a good week so far. See you tomorrow unless I skip out and head to the beach. It’s supposed to be another GORGEOUS day. Yay!!!

I Could Live Here ~ A Vibrant Home

house color swatchesPhoto found HERE

Good morning! This colorful home is catching my eye this morning and is working as a great wake-me-up! I used to do color consulting … I went into clients homes and helped them choose a color scheme for their walls. Talk about a fun job! I started it because I have a chronic illness (MS) and needed something I could do mostly from home with just a few hours on the job per week. Looking back, it seems like most of my clients were pretty conservative in their color preferences. Mostly they liked warmer reds, deeper blues, and neutrals such as beige and tan. I would have really enjoyed putting together a color scheme like this!

Besides the colors, I love the furniture styles, the colorful artwork, the eclectic decor pieces, and the beautiful wood slat floor. Our tiny condo is decorated in pretty subdued earthy colors (see our home photos on this Pinterest board). We’ve only lived here a little over a year, though, so I’m planning on adding more vibrant colors one of these days.

What about you? Could you live here?

Aww …. Downton Abbey

I’m a huge romantic … you have to be to watch Downton Abbey, right? Although I haven’t kept up very well this last season, I plan on doing some catching up soon! I especially enjoy watching this kind of series with my daughters. What is it we like about this show? I have a feeling it’s the beautiful flowing gowns, the ladylike updos, the lovely English accents, the sweet romances and drama, and the gorgeous setting. I need me a Downton Abbey fix soon!

Hope you’re having a great week so far, sweet friends.

Denim and Lace

style 1You can find these styles on my FASHION Pinterest board!

Today’s been a challenging day (see the post below this one) and on difficult days one of my beautiful distractions is PINTEREST. I love visiting this site and posting photos of the things I love. 🙂

If I had to describe my two favorite fashion accents they’d be “denim” and “lace”. I think the reason I like them so much is because they represent who I am as a person. I’ve got that tomboy side that likes day hikes, wrestling on the floor, and learning about rocks and bugs. And then I have the more girly side that loves to daydream, dress up, and be romanced. Sigh … love this style combination!

How about you? How would you describe your style in TWO words?

A Difficult Day

Today started off bad. I wasn’t expecting the phone call from my niece that my Mother-in-Law (and her precious Grandma) has taken a turn for the worse. I love my husband’s Mom, Ruth. She’s a sweet and simple farm wife from Iowa with soft-spoken ways, a gentle voice, and an enduring love for her family. Not to mention, when she felt better she used to make the best pumpkin bars on the planet (here’s THE RECIPE she followed)!

You never know what life holds … sometimes it’s unspeakable beauty and other times it’s immense heartache. Knowing and loving Ruth has brought the first into our lives and I’m dreading the pain we’ll feel at her loss. Thank you, Mom, for being YOU and for making a huge difference in my life. Love you always!! xoxo
